Russell's
About This Spot
Stepping into Russell’s on Fair Oaks Avenue feels like being gently drawn into a familiar morning ritual. The diner’s cozy, slightly bustling atmosphere invites you to settle in and slow down a bit, even as the world outside Pasadena’s streets hums steadily along. There’s a timeless quality here—a quiet comfort in the warm lighting, the soft classical melodies playing in the background, and the rhythmic shuffle of servers weaving through tables. It’s the kind of place where neighbors meet and long mornings unfold, unhurried and sincere.
The pace at Russell’s is patient and unpretentious, making it easy to savor moments whether you’re catching up with friends or simply enjoying a few precious minutes alone. It’s a space that balances the buzz of a popular local hangout with a gentle intimacy, giving each visit a sense of personal connection.
The menu mirrors this thoughtful approach, presenting classic American breakfast and lunch treasures with care and heart. Whether it’s the softly crisped waffles or the comforting embrace of a hearty breakfast burrito, each dish reveals a devotion to genuine flavors and simple pleasures. The coffee, often praised for its freshness, acts as a steady companion to morning conversations, while options like the cinnamon rolls and colossal cheesecake quietly elevate the experience into something a bit more special.
What makes Russell’s particularly inviting is its subtle attentiveness—the warmth of its staff, the occasional hum of joyful chatter, and the small, human moments that thread through every visit. It’s the kind of place where the casual clatter of plates and friendly greetings feel like a comforting backdrop, rather than noise, a space where every breakfast is a quietly shared occasion.

My SO said he loved everything about it. We were there for breakfast on a Sunday. We were told an hour wait. Our wait was less probably 30-45 minutes. The restaurant was packed and a little noisy. There is only one restaurant for women. However the diner is not that big. We had the waffle breakfast and the French toast breakfast. I would order either one again. You get eggs and the meat of your choice. Hash browns and drinks are separate.

Love this place the atmosphere is very relaxing, the staff was genuinely friendly, and the waffle we got with out meal was perfectly crispy, and hit the spot ! The other items (eggs bacon hashbrowns) were ok not spectacular but definitely not bad either we’ll skip the muffin addition next time, and just to clarify if you request just a glass of water it’s tap …don’t drink LA tap… order water or skip water all together. The fresh squeezed orange juice was delicious!

I love Russell’s. I’ve been here a few times now with friends and family. It’s a cozy and intimate diner feeling restaurant. There is always a wait because it’s just that good. I always get the waffles and breakfast plate with the hash browns. A simple and delicious breakfast and one that I crave.

Such a lovely spot to start the morning. I enjoyed my meal while soft classical tunes played in the background, making the whole setting feel calm and welcoming. The team was warm and attentive, and every dish tasted fresh and flavorful. A wonderful experience from start to finish.

Was recommended this place from a local. Arrived at the restaurant shortly after 7:15am. We were warmly greeted and taken to our seats quickly. Coffee was fresh and was given enough time to make a decision to order. I ordered the ulitmate breakfast burrito with extra crispy hashbrowns (nailed it) and my friend ordered fresh toast. Both meals were done to perfection.

Delicious food and excellent service. Perfect place for family or friends. The steady bustle of the kitchen and rich ambiance is very inviting. I'll definitely be back again!

We went mid-morning and there was still a wait, but, oh, my goodness, was it worth it! In the 70's, I lived in Pasadena within walking distance to Russell's, but we only discovered it now, 50 years later! I love the deep red walls, the reproduction of famous paintings, and the classical music. The restaurant is divided into excellent seating arrangements, including a counter. We enjoyed great food and great service.
